PROJECT THREE

Imagined Outcomes. This project asked students to imagine their artwork out of the studio and into the world. They began by researching exhibition and alternative venues, developed a thematic focus for their proposals, and produced drawings and models of their work in their chosen spaces.

Removed is an installation of 10 printed objects in the form of matchboxes and books integrated into settings built and staged to look like an old-fashioned European hotel reception desk, a library and a bookstore. They are designed to draw the viewer into an intimate space to imaginatively engage with the works within.

Outside the Box is a site-specific installation in “Manticore Books,” a bookstore in Orillia, ON. The three works included, a painting, a woodcut print, and digital projection, are accompanied by the books that inspired them, displayed open on plinths. The intent is to encourage bookstore patrons to imagine other alternative storylines that could happen between the images and the books.

This Is My Normal is an exhibition within a portable shipping container. It is intended to be taken to different schools and libraries to help educate people on what it’s like having anxiety and a learning disability. The artwork, paintings, videos, and printed bound comic books, will be displayed in two spaces, with the darkened back room including sound (heartbeats), timed black lights and glow-in-the-dark wall text.

In this proposal for a solo exhibition of my work it was important to balance the composition and the flow of the space. Therefore, I came up with the idea of movable partition gallery walls. These partition walls will be 4’ x 8’, 8’ x 8’, and 16’ x 8’. For my model I have scaled everything down 24 times so that each foot would be 0.5 inch. The layout of the space will guide the viewer through text panels, artwork and encourage them to take a seat, grab a book and spend more time with the art.
